Announcement regarding SE-5 Pro software support on devices with ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) hardware.
It has come to our attention that the SE-5 Professional software will not run on Windows tablets and notebook computers that are based on the ARM processor architecture. We therefore cannot support these devices at this time so please do not purchase one with the intention of running the SE-5 software. From our current testing, we know it will not run on Windows 11 on this hardware platform.
We will be working on fixing this issue in the future but do not currently have an expected release date for any such fixes.
If you have an ARM based laptop and you have managed to get the Pro software running, we would be very keen to hear the details of the machine and how you installed it. Please contact us at your earliest convenience.
What is happening?
We have tested on Windows 11 Home version 22H2, 23H2, and 24H2. The software seemingly installs OK with no error messages, but then refuses to run complaining about failing to load FTD2xx.DLL. Are FTDi drivers installed?.
The chipset manufacturer that provides the drivers has a set of drivers specifically for these ARM devices and they can only be installed manually. This, however, does not fix the issue for the Pro software.
The legacy software does not seem to be affected on these machines once the proper drivers are installed. However, due to the Pro software issues we have experienced, and the fact we have not done extensive testing of the legacy software, we will not provide support for either software on these devices at this time.
What devices are ARM based?
You will know that a device is ARM based if its processor is an Qualcomm (brand) Snapdragon 8cx, X, plus, or elite. There may be others in use by some manufacturers, and you will have to ask the question; Is this an ARM based device?
Microsoft Surface Pro:-
-
There are a few older models that are ARM based. Surface Pro X, one of the Surface Pro 9s, and the Surface Laptop 7.
-
All the new Surface Pro 11 laptops are ARM based now it seems.
Other manufacturers:-
-
Samsung has a range of Galaxy Book S laptops that feature ARM based hardware running windows 11 home.
-
HP have some like the EliteBook Ultra
-
ASUS have some too like the ProArt PZ13 or their Vivobook S 15.
-
Lenovo has been supplying ARM based laptops for a few years now.
-
